Modules

People

Employee directory, org chart, time off, onboarding, and performance — your HR hub.

The People module is your HR system of record. Track employees from hire to offboard, manage time off and approvals, run structured onboarding, and connect workforce data to the rest of Workestra — planning, assets, contracts, and time tracking.

What the People Module Does

Workestra's People module helps you:

  • Manage employee records — Centralize profiles with custom fields, role, department, and contract details
  • Visualize the org chart — Auto-generated reporting hierarchy from manager relationships
  • Handle time off — Policy-driven leave requests, balance tracking, and multi-level approval workflows
  • Run structured onboarding — Checklists that auto-assign to new hires with due-date offsets
  • Track performance — Review cycles and structured 1:1 meeting notes
  • Browse the directory — Department-filtered employee directory with contact details
  • Feed resource planning — Skills taxonomy that drives resource matching in Planning

How to Enable People

  1. Navigate to Settings > Modules
  2. Find the People card
  3. Toggle it On
  4. People appears in your sidebar

People is available as an add-on on all plans, priced per employee per month. Employees are different from workspace users — an employee record can exist without a Workestra login.

Core Concepts

Employees

The core record in People. Each employee holds their name, role, department, manager, start date, skills, contract type, and status. Linking an employee to a Workestra user account connects their tasks, time entries, and goals to their HR profile.

→ Employees Documentation

Departments

Organizational groupings that drive the org chart and route time-off notifications. Each department can have a designated head who receives approval requests for their team.

Time-Off Policies

Accrual rules, annual allowances, carryover limits, and approval chains — configured per leave type (vacation, sick, parental, and more). Approved leave automatically reduces availability in Planning.

→ Time Off Documentation

Onboarding Templates

Checklists that auto-assign to new hires with due dates calculated from the hire date. Tasks can be delegated to the employee, their manager, HR, or IT — and can include document uploads, e-signatures, and survey links.

Integration Hooks

People connects to other Workestra modules automatically:

  • Assets — Surfaces an asset-return checklist when an employee is off-boarded
  • Planning — Uses skills and working patterns for resource allocation and capacity calculations
  • Contracts — Links employment contracts to the employee record for e-signature and archiving
  • Time — Tracks work hours per employee; time entries appear on the employee detail page
